tonight's Politics with a Punch

This evening's panel looks pretty interesting:

  • Austin Badon, State Representative, Candidate for Mayor

  • Jonathan Bell, Movie Actor and Veteran Comedian

  • Aaron Broussard, Jefferson Parish President

  • Alden Hagardorn, President, St. Henry’s Parish Council

  • Misty Jackson, Renowned Comedian and TV Star

  • Blaine Kern, Mr. Mardi Gras, New Orleans Ambassador

  • Pierre Thomas, New Orleans Saints Star Running Back

On our star studded show, we’ll cover everything from the inauguration of President Obama to the latest trials and tribulations of Dollar Bill Jefferson to Holy Cao, we have a new Congressman to Sen. David Vitter supporting the religious right and challenging Hillary Clinton, while hoping the voters forget about the D.C. Madam!

See you there!

oh boy oh boy

I haven't been this excited for a Politics with a Punch panel in quite some time. But, if thise holds, I think it's going to be awesome. Mainly because I'm a drama queen. Via e-mail, here's the line-up:

Jay Batt, Former Councilman, Chair-Louisiana McCain Campaign

Virginia Boulet, Chairman of Obama Campaign, Louisiana

Manny Chevrolet Bruno, Comic-Troubled Man for Troubled Times

Joe Johnson, Former Saints Star, Member of Saints Hall of Fame

Norman Robinson, News Anchor, WDSU-TV, Channel 6

Chris Rose, Times Picayune Columnist, Author and Commentator

John Slade, Political Cartoonist, Radio Talk Show Host, Comedian

The usual election dramatics aside, I just want to see Chris Rose after his domestic disturbance arrest. Maybe he and Derrick Sheperd could start a drinking group of some sort where they go terrorize ex-girlfriends together??

Check out the comments on the Rose article. The outpouring of support is amazing and disgusting to me.

Tonight's panel at the Cricket Club features:

  • Cedric Richmond, State Representative and Candidate for Congress
  • Mark Singletary, Publisher of New Orleans City Business
  • Mike Smith, Comedian, Contributor to New Orleans Levee Newspaper
  • Dr. Michael White, Jazz Musician, Bandleader & Composer

Between out of town travels and other exciting events in our lives, this is the first Politics with a Punch that the Head Pelican girls have attended in a long time. The event starts 8 PM.

It was indeed...

It was indeed a Crowded House last night at Politics With a Punch. Even though we arrived shortly after 7 PM and had our reservations, we had to stand in line for something like half an hour before anyone would even talk to us. NOOBS! (no elbows were dropped)

I think Stacy Head is like New Orleans' own Tina Fey.

I think last night's very important take home message was this: Vagina is always good for the economy.

Crowded House

After February's low attendance of Politics with a Punch, Chris Rose published an article in the T-P about the show's history and this Thursday's Sixth Anniversary show.

Looks like some of us will have to throw some elbows to get our tables this week. Jeffrey, this is your heads up.

It would be pretty sweet if Senator Landrieu actually showed up to be a panel member.

balls

My favorite quote from last night's Politics with a Punch:

Women have balls, too, they're just in our feet and we walk on them.
-GiO

She was probably one of my favorite panelists yet. First time I've heard the word "patriarchy" since ALTR and I have been attending.

stuff and stuff

The best parts of last night. Or, atleast the parts I can remember, haha.

Jeff Crouere:

The democratic race has come down to a black man and a white woman. That's the same decision Michael Jackson has to make everyday.

And here is an actual conversation that took place....
ALTL: Oooh, you smell nice.
Vince Vance: Ask me what I'm wearing.
ALTL: Uh, what are you wearing?
VV: A hard on! For you!
ALTL: *shock*

Some random thoughts...

  • The Times-Pic has picked up on the omg-Golden-Compass-is-anti-Christian bandwagon, citing the same e-mail I received about a month or so back. Why do Christians get so up in arms about this stuff? It's a work of fiction. Is it because it isn't the same BS the community wants you to be spoon fed? Sheesh, relax.
  • Cuervo has done it again. They have now come out with Cuervo Reserva de al Familia. Plata. This has traditionally been a premium anejo. I guess this plata tequila is such a big deal because Cuervo actually makes it in Mexico instead of in Connecticut. I was drunk and really upset when I spied that bottle at the bar while enjoying my Milagro Silver.
  • This Tonka truck commercial irritates me every time I see it. "Boys are built different." Little girls can't be interested in trucks? Or making messes? So annoying and sexist.
  • I can't wait for this National Championship nonsense to be over. It's already out of hand and I want to bang my head against my computer monitor every time the talk gets going in my office.
  • Not a lot of people are talking about it 'round here (except Adrastros, but Dickie Scruggs got busted last week for bribery. As someone once told me, some people have more nerve than sense. Check out the Insurance Coverage Law Blog for a play-by-play in what's going on with that.
  • Politics With A Punch is Thursday night. The ALTR and I will be attending. Personally I'm hoping to jump Roop Raj after the show.
  • Lastly, In Matte has joined our esteemed panel of bloggers. Look for her well versed and insightful blogs to appear soon!

A hot mess of a Friday

Here's what's up this morning:

* Bribery charge in connection with Corps of Engineers levee rebuilding project. Why'd it have to be a Houstonian? As the bumper stickers say, "Thanks Houston" [PRNewswire]

* Dan Frazier has done an excellent job hammering out some of our questions and concerns regarding the new flood maps. [MetroBlogging New Orleans]

* A witty panelist at Politics with a Punch on Wednesday night described New Orleans as being like the "Lindsey Lohan" of cities. One drunk big hot mess. Here's a good bit on Lohan's legal drama. [EOnline]

* I hate to tap Hollywood twice for your AM briefing, but this is all I've got so far. The Smoking Gun reports that Nicole Richie spent 82 minutes in jail yesterday and all she got was this lousy mug shot. [The Smoking Gun]

Your AM dailies

ALTR has a serious hangover from last night's Politics with a Punch where yours truly witnessed firsthand ALTL's feminist/anti-establishment-loving dilemma in forming an opinion on Canal Street Madam Jeanette Maier. The Head Pelican girls went to the show not really knowing what to expect, but were surprised to find out that the Madam was on the evening's panel.

Here are some AM dailies to keep you occupied while I get over my hangover:

* Paris Hilton’s lawyers save the heiress from having to shop for even more court-appropriate outfits. [EOnline]

* Texas executes its 400th. [WAFB] And apparently the EU thinks it can tell Texas what to do. [AfroSpear] As if Texas lawmakers really know what the EU is - "I thought Europe was a continent, not a country!"

* Exactly the kind of story those liberal NRA-haters don't want you to read about: 22 year-old woman kills intruder during a home invasion in Luling. [WGNO]

* When Congress goes back to school soon, the education debate will be heating up. An interesting tidbit with insight into ALTR's own fascination with education policy. Meanwhile thousands of New Orleans families will see their private school bills arrive in the mail soon.[Tallahassee Democrat]

* ALTR thinks ALTL will appreciate this Wonkette bit on a certain Craig's List want ad for oh-so-many ironic reasons. [Wonkette]

I'll post again after I finish my AM coffee and find out exactly what my crazy boss needs me to do today.
