When you get invited to a BBQ at the McCain ranch over Memorial Day weekend, what would you expect to do? I'd want to hang out with his daughter Meghan - we could ride horses and talk about blogging & politics.
But if you're Florida Govenor Charlie Crist, our Governor Jindal, or Mitt Romney, people are going to expect you're plotting politics. VP politics, specifically. And they'll probably have a poolside cannonball/belly flop contest too.
If you can't tell, the idea of politicians hanging out together has always amused me. One must wonder, how do these guys actually get invited to something like this? [Obviously, it's something like "my people call your people."] But it's much more fun to imagine that McCain created an Evite or Facebook invitation: "John McCain has invited you to a Memorial Day BBQ Bash..." Or, it's also fun to imagine this as something like a fraternity rush party. Also, since it's very exclusive, I would imagine that such an invite would come with a disclaimer such as: "Don't tell Rick Perry or Mike Huckabee about this - they weren't invited and I don't want to hurt their feelings."
Sadly, I was not invited to the super-exclusive McCain Memorial Day festivities. However, ALTL and I will be road-tripping to Houston where we will do some real shopping and take in a baseball game in attempt to cure our Hornets-heartbreak. We'll probably be drunk 95% of the time - and that's way more fun than some stiff Republican rush party.
Steve Scalise won last night in the GOP runoff for the District 1 congressional elections, the seat left vacant by Bobby Jindal when he peaced out to Baton Rouge. This pretty much means that Scalise will be the next representative for District 1, which has been a Republican-held seat since 1977.
It's exciting this area again has someone to rally around now, although I don't think Scalise quite has or will ever have the cult following that Bobby had as the District 1 rep.
But one thing is for certain: Mr. Scalise is clearly possessed by the devil and will wake up to find this TERRIFYING photo of himself on NOLA.com:
Scalise has been eyeing this seat for a decade now, backing down to people that are better looking and more interesting than him (obviously, Bobby Jindal, and also David Vitter *irony implied*). But now he finally gets to go to Washington and kick it with the big boys, so I congratulate him.
Scalise beat out opponent Tim Burns, who received most of this support and votes from the conservatives in St. Tammany and Washington parishes.
Scalise will go up against Dr. Gilda Reed (Democrat), Skip Galan (Independent), and Tony Gentile (Independent American Party) in the general election set for May 3. [Times-Picayune]

You can submit your resume online to be considered for a job on Jindal's transition team or his administration at LouisianaTransition.com. Tomorrow afternoon at 1 pm the governor-elect will hold a press conference to discuss some more appointments which have been made for certain positions within his administration. Jindal has just recently announced that Timmy Teepell, his chief of staff in his DC office, will fulfill the same position in the governor's office. Joseph Waguespack, a 33 year-old DC lobbyist and former House aide, will take on the position of Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy [WAFB].
This is an exciting time to be living in Louisiana, especially as a young person and ever more so as a Republican. Personally, over the past few months, I had been having doubts about my decision to stay in the city after graduating. If it wasn't for the fact that my father's family lives here and that I still have friends living here, I know I couldn't have stayed in the city. But Bobby's 54% mandate from the people of Louisiana was also a personal mandate for ALTR: the outcome of Saturday's election sealed my decision to remain in New Orleans for at least a few more years to come, and hopefully many more.
...John Georges speaks English, Spanish, and Greek. I know what you're thinking - Old Metairie snob? But keep in mind, our current governor basically speaks Greek without even trying; John Georges is at least smart enough to acknowledge the difference.

Walter Boasso and Foster Campbell don't seem to have MySpace pages - or if they do, I am not able to find them. Given that I'm writing this post from home, it would seem that ALTR's MySpace-stalking skills work better between 8 and 5.
