GDI JP

On the eve of the red light cameras getting wired in Orleans Parish, I'm pretty sure I got popped by one of the JP cameras at the intersection of Causeway and 17th. The flashes of light were a dead giveaway. However, I did enter the intersection while the light was yellow going maybe 5 mph over the speed limit. Do they actually send a ticket for that?

Fuckin' skanks.

Another reason to love George Clooney

In continuing with my post on lookalikes, I just stumbled across this 1990 pic of George Clooney. OMG - he looks like my boyfriend SDT!

Crowded House

After February's low attendance of Politics with a Punch, Chris Rose published an article in the T-P about the show's history and this Thursday's Sixth Anniversary show.

Looks like some of us will have to throw some elbows to get our tables this week. Jeffrey, this is your heads up.

It would be pretty sweet if Senator Landrieu actually showed up to be a panel member.

It's all in the family

DON'T VOTE FOR OBAMA HE IS RELATED TO BUSH!!

Clinton, who is of French-Canadian descent on her mother's side, is also a distant cousin of singers Madonna, Celine Dion and Alanis Morissette. Obama, the son of a white woman from Kansas and a black man from Kenya, can call six U.S. presidents, including George W. Bush, his cousins. McCain is a sixth cousin of first lady Laura Bush.

Knowing that HRC is related to Alanis Morissette AKA God just solidified my support for her. Just so you know.

If you squint, he looks like Barry!

While in the Houston airport over the weekend, I saw a gentleman arriving at my gate who looked just like Barack Obama. He was even dressed like him, suit and trenchcoat, clearly a businessman on a business trip. It must be so fun to look so much like a celebrity, especially in such an awesome place for people-watching as an airport. He didn't have on a wedding ring, so I'm sure he pulls lots of ladies.

And apparently there's money to be made if you're a Barry O lookalike: Barack Obama Lookalike and Impersonator.

What sound does an elephant make?

On the drive down the Causeway to work this morning...

* Sorry for the poor photo quality, I noticed it at the red light and just as I was snapping a phone pic the light changed.

changing lanes

Even though I know how to change my own tire, it's incidents like this that make me glad to be a member of AAA -- Two shot this morning on I-10 while changing a tire.

I mean, I even think twice about giving the finger to drivers in my maddening road rage ever since a friend of mine was followed home, but this article makes it sound like the shooter was on foot. Wow. What is a person to do?

it's raining....

These YouTube videos are getting out of control....

I can't tell if it's an attempt at comedy or cuteness for McCain.

it's a hard knock life

It's tough to be a Tulane student in this day and age: Weed Shortage on Campus

Some of my favorite exceprts:

One student explained that a certain religiously-affiliated fraternity is notorious for selling marijuana because of the fraternity's liberal, "hippie" tendencies.

"A lot of them really are committed to God and everything, but that doesn't mean they're angels. They know how to party too, like any other frat," she said.

How clever, they're not angels. I was counting on ALTR to identify this frat with her Greek roots, but without her the consensus is AEPi. I thought they were always more of a coke-oriented fraternity, but that could just be my misconception of the AEPhi sorority.
When asked about the situation, an upperclassman who smokes marijuana commented that the shortage isn't something to be too disconcerted about.

"All I can say is that it's good that pot isn't addictive," he said. "If it was, half the freshmen class would be going insane right now. Besides, maybe a shortage will help people out with midterms - could be a blessing in disguise."

Half of the first years are pot smokers? I'm not really sure whether that's a lot or a little. And, of course, leave it to a Tulane pot head to be optimistic about the weed shortage on campus and how it will effect midterm scores.

Causeway shut down.

Causeway bridge northbound shut down.

Authorities have shut down the northbound lanes of the Causeway Bridge, according to Causeway police.

Early reports indicate someone may have jumped off the bridge a little after 8 a.m. Causeway officials said only that there was an incident on that side of the bridge.

Was wondering why the bridge was shut down...it appeared to start moving again shortly after 9 AM.

I SAW RAY FRIDAY NIGHT AT THE HORNETS/LAKERS GAME! HE DOES EXIST!!

In other news, holy shit, the Hornets are playing awesome. The Spurs game the other night I thought was going to break out into a brawl at some point, but the Hornets laid the smack down with a 25-point win. Friday night I got some balla seats from my boss and had a grand ol' time play fighting with the Lakers fans in front of us. When they were shouting "YOU CAN'T STOP KOBE, YOU CAN ONLY HOPE TO CONTAIN HIM!!" I could not resist the stab "Yes, you certainly can't stop him from raping women." That didn't go over so well...

Next game: ALTR and I see the Hornets take on the Rockets on Wednesday. This was our team back in the day of Hakeem the Dream. CP3 > TMac

innovative, like whoa

I love it.

I saw the paper towel roll, but are those salt and pepper shakers on the handle bars?! BRILLIANT!

She's here!

As previously reported Gloria Steinem will be speaking at Tulane University this evening.

It's funny, I remember seeing Phylis Schlafly speak a couple years back, sponsored by the College Republicans. Now my girls at Newcomb are bringing the big name in feminism to Tulane. I'm pretty stoked and managed to wrangle ALTR to accompany me.

It's slated for a 7 PM start time, but some facebook message I got says that doors open at 5 and the talk doesn't start until 8. But there will be a book signing and reception following. Newcomb always orders the best food.

On an aside, did you know that Steinem married Christian Bale's father in 2000? I think I've posted that before, but always an interesting bit of trivia.

what the fucking fuck

This is the most disturbing thing I have seen on the internet in a long time. It brought tears to my eyes and made my stomach churn.

US Soldier Throws Puppy Off Cliff

I have tried to find something more about this on the internet, like if it's even for real, but all I can come up with is message board threads posted today with the same video.

The secret to Clancy's success

A friend just showed me this sweet website: Tom Clancy Plot Generator. Just pick your culprit, your surprise corrupt 3rd party, and a general plot is created for you Clancy-style.

I am certain that John Grisham has a similar computer program that he uses to create his novels. The fields for the Grisham generator are probably something like "Southern city in which plot will unfold?" and "where did characters go to law school?"
