John McCain: PBJ, What R U up 2 this weekend?

When you get invited to a BBQ at the McCain ranch over Memorial Day weekend, what would you expect to do? I'd want to hang out with his daughter Meghan - we could ride horses and talk about blogging & politics.

But if you're Florida Govenor Charlie Crist, our Governor Jindal, or Mitt Romney, people are going to expect you're plotting politics. VP politics, specifically. And they'll probably have a poolside cannonball/belly flop contest too.

If you can't tell, the idea of politicians hanging out together has always amused me. One must wonder, how do these guys actually get invited to something like this? [Obviously, it's something like "my people call your people."] But it's much more fun to imagine that McCain created an Evite or Facebook invitation: "John McCain has invited you to a Memorial Day BBQ Bash..." Or, it's also fun to imagine this as something like a fraternity rush party. Also, since it's very exclusive, I would imagine that such an invite would come with a disclaimer such as: "Don't tell Rick Perry or Mike Huckabee about this - they weren't invited and I don't want to hurt their feelings."

Sadly, I was not invited to the super-exclusive McCain Memorial Day festivities. However, ALTL and I will be road-tripping to Houston where we will do some real shopping and take in a baseball game in attempt to cure our Hornets-heartbreak. We'll probably be drunk 95% of the time - and that's way more fun than some stiff Republican rush party.

It's all in the family

DON'T VOTE FOR OBAMA HE IS RELATED TO BUSH!!

Clinton, who is of French-Canadian descent on her mother's side, is also a distant cousin of singers Madonna, Celine Dion and Alanis Morissette. Obama, the son of a white woman from Kansas and a black man from Kenya, can call six U.S. presidents, including George W. Bush, his cousins. McCain is a sixth cousin of first lady Laura Bush.

Knowing that HRC is related to Alanis Morissette AKA God just solidified my support for her. Just so you know.

it's raining....

These YouTube videos are getting out of control....

I can't tell if it's an attempt at comedy or cuteness for McCain.

Your Potomac Primary CliffsNotes

A thought just occurred to me - what if the BlackBerry crisis had happened today instead of yesterday? That would have been too funny - all those Crack(berry)-happy DC area pols without their security blankets on a big primary day.

So here's a summary of the VA/MD/DC primaries tonight: everyone basically voted for Barry. McCain won too. But in Virginia alot of people voted for Huckabee - mostly in the western part of the state, where most people don't have teeth.

ALTR's quiz

Like ALTL, I took the quiz too. Here's what it says about my support - this is helpful since I'm pretty much undecided (except for the Republican part). But I'm pretty sure I'm going to avoid the Huckabee route. So - McCain it is! Then Mitt Romney (my future father-in-law). Then Ron Paul (who I love a lot).

79% Mike Huckabee
78% John McCain
76% Mitt Romney
72% Ron Paul
72% Fred Thompson
71% Tom Tancredo
58% Rudy Giuliani
42% Bill Richardson
32% Hillary Clinton
31% Barack Obama
30% John Edwards
28% Mike Gravel
26% Chris Dodd
25% Joe Biden
21% Dennis Kucinich

Let the circus begin

The "Running for President Show" begins today as 5 presidental hopefuls get a go at grilling General Petraeus on Capitol Hill today. As a Senate intern, ALTR had the chance to view a similar display of senators going way over the time on the clock they were allowed and fits of shameless self-promotion during the confirmation hearings of Chief Justice nominee John Roberts (the hearings at which Senator Chuck Schumer now apparently regrets not being more obnoxious). My favorite for the day will undoubtedly be Senator Joseph Biden (D-DE), one of the biggest goons in our Senate today.

Politico suggests that the Petraeus testimonies will be beneficial to Republican candidates, looking for lingo and points of reference in the ongoing struggle to support the war in 2008. In particular, they suggest the testimonies may be especially helpful to Senator John McCain, who will also get a chance to address General Petraeus as the hearings today. Also in news on the Petraeus testimony, WAFB reports that President Bush was pleased with what he heard from the general, including the suggestion that 30,000 troops be brought home before next summer.[WAFB] [Politico] [WAFB]

Anyone who calls in sick to your office this AM has a Decadence hangover, there is no other explanation...

Since Southern Decadence will likely cause alot of "de-briefing" this weekend, here's a morning briefing:

● Where there's smoke, there's fire. At least this anti-HRC Republican hopes anyway. Some Asian-Americans are angry at the GOP for commenting on the fundraising Clinton scandal. [Politico]

● The NAACP challenges Secretary of State Jay Dardenne's voter purge. Only in Louisiana can dead people and Texans vote. That is, if the NAACP gets its way.[International Herald Tribune]

● It's Turd Blossom's last day in the White House. [WAFB]

● Oh, the irony. McCain qualifies for FEC welfare, interpreted by some as a desperate move. Ironically, this is of the same sort of election reform the senator pushed in the early years of the Bush administration. ALTR really hopes the man has some tricks up his sleeve...[Also from Politico]

● The Larry Craig interrogation tapes are ready for your consumption in a porno-frenzy we haven't seen since the Starr Report. Yes, you liberal sicko, I have a link for you: hear it at TSG. CNN played some of the tape's "greatest hits" over and over again this morning much to ALTR's chagrin during my morning primp session. Larry Craig might not be gay, but his boyfriend is. [MoJo]
